only among the white-guilt laden folk of Portland Oregon would this be an issue

I hope he does well in his business and either produces something spectacular that gets a thousand a bottle or something decent that gets a following that makes him a comfortable living.

Jeez, I hate stories like this, I mean, I didn't even know there were stereotypes about white people and the wine industry.

The only racial stereotypes I ever heard about regarding wine centered on Thunderbird...

Why can't we just say "humans" and forget the trivial differences?

Because there would be nowhere for small minded people to place the blame for all their own bad choices.

Speaking of bad choices, going into the wine business is a really bad choice.

I only skimmed the article, did it mention any particularly compelling reasons that I should care?

As long as people see themselves as different and hyphenated = Americans we will never get rid of racism.

I think that is the crux of the matter, the "pulling it off" part. My partner decided he wanted to be a wine maker. His favorite saying about the wine making business goes something like this, "the quickest way to make a small fortune in wine making is start with a large one."

BTW he is of Hispanic descent, but failed to mention to me the stereotype thing, but then again, he is considered white, racially if not ethnically speaking, so maybe he was just part of the problem, stereotype wise.

The most racist people are the ones hollering racism every chance they get.

Just like NASCAR reaching out to minority.

The white market is tapped out. Have to expand customer base but hide it in political correctness.

It is obviously, White wine privilege guilt... even I, an untrained oaf at all things grape, can see that as like totally not red thus it must be white grapeskin racial overtones keeping the red wineskin down! And we can't allow that! Equal time for equal wine!

White Wine Matters! or is it red?!?!

Some wines matter more than other wines?

    Cork or screwtop?

    Bottle or box?

    Iced or not?

Do I have to take it out of the brown paper bag!?! Am I allowed to do that?!?

Two Buck Chuck is alright in my book.

Are the California raisins white? They could have fooled me....

If you need a quick education, allow me to drop you in any of several neighborhoods I know without weapon, phone, or money. You'll either learn about trivial differences, or not. :timeforthat:

You'll always be remembered if you do:

I never knew that the first thing I should do after opening up a bottle of wine is sniff the cork to see who made it.
