Times have certainly changed. Here is a copy of my father's CCW in 1945 for the princely sum of $0.50

from Massachusetts. :alex:

“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.” ~ Samual Adams

This is pretty old data but news reports I have read in recent years doesn't indicate an increase.
I know of one case of a retired Superior Court judge who was refused a carry permit in SF County.

Don’t come back to us asking to be able to protect yourself from all those guys you sent up the river, just call 911 if you think someone might be trying to kill you.

"The federal agency didn’t identify the permit holder or their home province."

Some people are more equal than others or in this case one person is more equal than everyone else. Even his/her name is privacy protected. Nice.
Imagine being the criminal that picks the one guy in the entire country who can legally carry and attack him. Bad guy wins the prize for the worse victim selection of all time....

TheGunBlog.ca — One person in Canada has a so-called “Authorization To Carry” (ATC) loaded guns for personal protection against human attackers, Dennis Young reported today, based on a special filing he obtained from the federal police.

" "Authorization to Carry" loaded guns for personal protection from human attackers. "

What a very specific way to put it. So, if I wanted to carry a loaded gun on my way to the range, that is fine? Farmers can carry for pests?

The Canadian people are getting what they want. Like a dog that heels at the feet of its master, they choose to be slaves of the central bureaucracy. How sad it is to see the self-dehumanization of a once Free people.
As an ex, I can assure you it didn’t start that way. Brainwashing in the schools, group think and PC craziness has done this over a couple / few of generations.
There are few left that remember what real freedom and personal responsibility means. The kids today think this is normal. I don’t know how you get it back.
One thing to remember about Canada and Canadians is they never fought the “empire” for their freedom nor had a civil war for their beliefs. Their culture therefore is very much different.

Indeed, quite different.
I have some Canadian friends and I get the impression they look askance at Americans like we're stuck in the Wild West or something.
I don't lecture them on their system and don't let them lecture me on ours.
I feel sorry for them and the freedoms they've given up. But it's their choice, I guess.

0ne permit out of 37 million population?

Then even our worst State of Affairs, Hawaii, is doing better with 42 permits out of 1.42 million.

Canada has had a handgun registry since 1934, and I once read a statement by the RCMP that not a single crime, except perhaps tangentially, had been solved as a result.

Canada is also where you can be sent to jail for saying that Islam is anything but a peaceful, benign religion. To even quote the Islamic Koran, pointing our the racism, hatred, pedophilia, etc. and not even editorializing these facts can get you arrested for "hate speech". It certainly is not a free country as we know it in America, even with all the limitations on our liberty.

funny thing about Canadians many of them while on their 6 months in Florida getting away from the harsh winter back home, I see them all the time in lgs's trying to purchase a handgun, some are so arrogant they tell the shop owner how about if I give you double for it, which results in them being told to leave the store
