When I use the Windows XP Search function and type in the letter "A", for example, all the previous words starting with the letter "A" pop up.

Is there a way to delete the items you have previously searched for and keep them from reappearing in the pop up?

This involves editing the registry, tread lightly!

For Windows XP Search Companion:
-Click Start/Run and type REGEDIT
-Navigate to the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Search Assistant \ ACMru \ 5603

-In the right-pane, delete the search items
-Close Registry Editor

For Windows Classic Search, the entries are stored in the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Internet Explorer \ Explorer Bars \ {C4EE31F3-4768-11D2-BE5C-00A0C9A83DA1} \ FilesNamedMRU

Here, I wrote this REG file that you can use too. Just rename this text file to ClearSearch.reg and everytime you double-click it, it will clear all of the search history.
