My FTO cut me loose on Monday. Still on probation, but in my own car now. It will take some time to get used to him not being in my peripheral vision for 12 hours a day. But hey! I get to pick the radio station now!

It is kinda weird. You always want to talk to them and ask questions, and you feel like you have to jump every call for "training". You'll get used to it after awhile. Congrats, though.

Call them on the cell phone. Butt turn your am/fm radio down a little.

Congratulations! Now the learning really starts.

I just finished "my" phase of training with my first trainee. She did well, and I have no doubt she will finish training with no problems.

    Make your trainer proud.

Yep, being unleashed is a great feeling. I had some good FTO's who made sure I knew what to do so that my first time I wouldn't completely freeze up.

Then I got to be the FTO and cut my trainee loose upon the world. Great feeling to watch them handle calls and develop their own style.

I laughed out loud when I read this because this is EXACTLY what I've been doing. I think the other officers might be getting sick of me showing up to every call.

Good luck. Remember to watch your six constantly. Oh and my biggest tip, until you have been out for a long time by yourself, turn your fm (the stereo) off. It can be a huge distraction. You aren't on a pleasure cruise out there. I find that most of the time, even after all these years, I don't have the radio on so I can listen and pay attention to whats going on with the car and whats going on outside the car.
