For my personal needs, the only thing my backyard gym is missing is a decent olympic weight set. Is there such thing as a set designed to withstand the elements? We're talking heat and rain. I'm anticipating rust to be my main problem.

By "olympic" do you mean bumper or cast steel/iron?

Iron is fine. Bumpers would be great, but I'm assuming more expensive. I'm mainly interested in deadlifts, so cast is just fine.

Is it not possible to just get them off the ground and cover with a tarp or something similar?

Not sure if you have Olympia Sports where you are, but they have a 300 lb Olympic set on sale for $130, and usually in their flyer they have a 20% off coupon. It comes out to $104.

I just got two of them since all my weights rusted in a flooded basement. I only had 4 45's left.

That is a sweet deal; unfortunately, no Olympia Sports down here.
