    Asus... pretty tough unit.

    The hinges are strong.
The screen will resist pokes with semi-sharp objects and the keys won't fall out.... decently juicebox liquid resistant too.

I've been using this old Dell for years. It gets some sand on it but keeps on chugging.

Dell is still a "decal company" buying from the lowest bidder and then sticking a Dell decal on it and calling it "theirs".

They've always done this and whenever I get a Dell in for repairs, I'm amazed what I find inside.

Until you get to the mid-upper echelon of Dell ... stay informed about what you are buying.

I don't like Windoze (read my name) .... but I find sometimes I have to use MS to get another piece if hardware running (GPS, printer, breadmaker) that will not run on Linux........

I don't like sending kids into Fanboidom with an iPoo because it's an entirely different state of reality.

Chromebooks ... especially for their age group makes a lot more sense.

I’ve always bought Dell. My 4 year-old laptop is a 17” Inspiron w/12gb ram. My 12 year-old desktop tower is a Dell Dimension something or other, not sure exact model. Also 12gb ram. Not being able to sit, I don’t get to use the desktop very much.

I dual-boot both Windoze/LinuxMint, and I only boot Windoze when I need to use Photoshop/Lightroom.

Hate to tell all of you but this argument over which os is better is very reminiscent of which caliber is better.
