Got me one of those chimney charcoal starters the other day. The type that you pour charcoal into the top and stuff the bottom with newspaper.......

MUCH better than lighter fluid. Wish that I had bought this gizmo years ago. EVERYTHING taste better and I don't get indigestion like I used to with fluid.

Got mine at Walmart for eight bucks. And you ought to see how hot those briquettes are when you pour them out.

The first time I ever saw one of those was in Ecuador and it made a believer out of me. And the best thing is they aren't that hard to make.

I know they work, but I've never had the opportunity to try one...

My common sense tells me that the lil' bit of newspaper required would burn up in two seconds,
before it had a chance to effect the charcoal, but too many people love these things for that to be the case...

I can't wait to try one myself...

I have found that I have to use a little more newspaper than what they say but after a couple of lightings, you can stand back and see the heat pouring out of the top of the thing.

After a few minutes, you can look down and see the briquettes getting hotter and hotter. You can tell how long you have to go by the discoloration on the side of the tube as it rises up.

Word of warning though. This thing has my upmost respect cause I am using a thick heat pad/glove thingie to pour the embers out. You have to be carefull with this thing.

And for big grills, you might need more than one. I have a little smoker/grill combo and I pour a little charcoal on the pan first with a little hickory soaked in water. Then I pour the hot ones on top of the pile and stand back.

Good hot fires and much tastier chicken, burgers, dogs, steaks.....you name it.
