So, remember back when we had a couple threads about wasps / hornets etc? I was thinking that I was lucky not having to deal with them too much. Well, didn’t THAT all change today. I continually walk under this tree every day usually several times. Well, I look up because I kept hearing something strange.
I yelled “Oh Hell no!” I think I set a new record for a 20 yard dash if there is one.

Looks like Bald Faced Hornets. They got after me on the mower a few years ago. Of course I did bash my head into their nest before I realized it was there. They have another nest around this year. I've been seeing them on the hummingbird feeder.

They've been there for a while, judging from the size of the nest. Leave them alone and they'll continue to leave you alone. This winter you can destroy the nest.

I volunteered to take some Cub Scouts camping while visiting a friend in Montana. Some of the Cubs thought it was great fun to go into the woods and knock down a hornets nest like that and then run like hell. Logger's kids. Wild and crazy.

If you're in OH, just wait til December / January and have someone... or yourself... take it down.

If you're going to do it yourself, I would make sure it's nice and cold that day!

12 gauge shotgun, full choke, #8 birdshot. Quick five or six rounds should make things interesting.

Careful if these are murder hornets, some are rumored to carry Glocks and knives. I saw one carrying a Glock on the internet.

Nothing like riding a horse in the woods and stirring a hornets nest up. Not fun having a runaway horse trying to knock you off with low hanging branches and vines.

I was stung by one of those bastages a few years ago while riding my dirt bike up in the mountains of N. WA. state. I can be stung by just about anything and it just feels like a pinch then it just starts itching. Those F*^$)rs hurt! My finger swole up to twice it's size!
Kill them with fire! Kill them ALL!

Wait until at after sunset. They don’t fly w/o the sun, no GPS. A hose end sprayer with dish soap will do it. The soap allows them to drown in the water.
