PLANO - An off-duty Plano police officer driving a pickup truck crashed into a squad car early Friday morning. And they weren't the only two officers from that city involved in crashes overnight.

The collision between the two officers happened on the Central Express way at Legacy Drive around 4 a.m.

The Plano police officer in the squad car was traveling north on the service road of I-75.

The off-duty officer in the pickup truck was headed east on Legacy Drive when he apparently ran the red light and hit the squad car in the front driver's side quarter panel.

Both drivers were taken to the hospital.

The Plano Police public information officer has not said if the off-duty officer may have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

As the police department investigates the accident, the following roads remained closed as of 6:30 a.m.: the northbound I-75 service road, plus both eastbound and wesbound Legacy Drive.

The Plano Police Department said this was the second accident of the night involving one of its police officers.

Just after midnight, a different officer responding to a call hit a patch of water and hydroplaned, spinning his squad car into a tree.

    That officer was not injured.

    ********

Friggin media... if NOT said, why print it? Prayers to the officers for a speedy recovery.

So they can imply that he was drunk and the Dept. is covering it up.

    So dumb.

Why add random crap to an article like that. How about this "It is unclear whether anyone involved in the crash had a third nipple. It is also unclear if the driver of the vehicle was on his way to the hospital to save babies and puppies from their ultimate death. It's also unclear if there were any equipment issues with the vehicle."

The article has been updated to contain this info:

So it's quite possible the earlier sentence (now removed) was included in that context - a question was asked, with no definitive answer given yet.

Its good to let stuff out sometimes!

Instead of being so allegorical, they should report facts.

It should have been written, "As per Plano PD policy, blood was drawn from both officers involved, results will be released at a later date." The PIO needs to work on that reporter a bit.

Correct. It should read US75. Looks like the actual article says Hwy now. You would think a local reporter could get it right.
