Guys,

I'm thinking about doing a training related to off duty carry. It seems like the thing to do since we have no bullets!! Can anyone post a link to a real good article that promotes off duty carry. I've read several and haven't found anything that jumps out at me. Thanks in advance

I don't understand...You are going to conduct an off duty carry class in lieu of live fire training for cops and want some articles to hand out to participants?

If that is the case the class should go something like this...

"Hello, my name is Officer So and So. You all should carry a gun when you are off duty because God kills a kitten for every off duty cop that is unarmed.

Thanks. Put in for your two hours and beat it."

Really though, you looking for stats? Tactics? Carry options? LE specific?

examples of off duty carry, the armed citizen in the front of every issue of the NRA magazine. if showing how regular folks who dont stick their nose in problems need guns doesnt convince cops to carry off duty you just have to let them go.

I'm not understanding what your saying. You want to do off duty training with no grounds. so dry fire???? Go back to the OP and reword your question so it makes sense to some of us. We all would like to help. :D

I think he says since they have no training ammo to do any on duty firearms training for live fire exercises, they might as well talk about off duty carry in a theoretical sense and is asking for good material to talk about in regards to off duty carry.

That is the way I took it. Airsoft???
Head to the local DHS office and splain your predicament. Show them your tax forms and that you paid for their ammo and would like some back.

Can't find a local office? Just look for the armored trucks or ask the TSA guys in their new uniforms.

Chico Bill just provided some excellent reasons, go thru that site and pick several to use in a lesson plan.

I have done some small scale local training with cops and I use the Ghost of Christmas future scene and ask them to imagine the following:
His son calling some stranger "Daddy" playing ball, going fishing, etc.
His wife hooked up with some jerk he knows and cannot stand.
The killer walking on a some trival error with charges dropped.
His family having to live in a bad part of town and struggle to make it.

Or the worse. Be in a public place and something go down, and not be able to do a damn thing when some thug molest his wife or girlfriend in front of him.

My technique has gotten positive results. Several cops I have done this with have bought compact pistols for the spouses in addition to carrying no BS firearms when off duty.

On duty we have the vest, radio, long gun, other units and more to keep us alive. Off duty, we are the thrown in the middle of a fight for survival with just what's on us.

I would also stress to your class that when off-duty, and when the uniforms show up, they control the scene (until they figure out who's who).

So when they scream "don't move," don't move. Don't turn towards them with gun in hand, like you would if you were in uniform. You're not in uniform or otherwise recognizable. You're just another unknown guy with a gun in a quickly unfolding situation.
