The recent thread on one hand shooting got me to thinking. Let's see how bad ( or good ) we are shooting one hand over shooting two hand. So here's the deal.

Shoot whatever you shoot best; any caliber, any gun, any optic ( metallic, laser, red dot, glass ), any action (SA or DA), any speed.

Shoot at 50 feet if you can, if not 50' let me know the distance and I will ratio the groups to 50 feet. For instance a 1 inch group @ 25' would be a 2 inch group at 50'.

Shoot one 5 shot group freestyle ( 2 handed )

Shoot one 5 shot group strong hand only.

shoot one 5 shoot group weak hand only

Report the center to center distance as accurately as you can on all three groups.

Enter as many times as you want, same gun, different gun.

The score is the total of all three group sizes.

    Lowest score takes it.

    Complicated enough for everybody?

Strong hand is % worse than Freestyle; Weak hand is % worse than Strong hand

Name //// Group //// Strong Hand //// Weak hand//// GUN

    Berto /// 6.436/// TBA//// TBA/// Officer's
    Ithaca //// 6.625 //// 92% ///// -22 %///// 2206
    willie(2) //// 7.50//// TBA//// TBA/ / Python
    colin //// 8.125//// -3//// 130//// 686
    willie_pete /// 9.25" //// 6% //// 95%//// 625

So, we should game the system and try to shoot as crappy right handed as we do left handed?

Wait, already do that! Woo hoo! :)

Yeah, I had already figured that out ( great minds and all that ) and was going to post a change to the scoring before anybody posted any targets. Once I looked at all the math possibilities, there were ways to "game" anything I came up with ( not that the esteemed shooters in this board would do that ).

I'm an engineer by training and forgot the old engineering adage : KISS

So, let's just make this about group sizes instead of ratios.

Freestyle + strong hand + weak hand = total.

I'll post the ratios for bragging rights, but they won't count for score.

Again, low total gets the win.

OK , here's mine; 9 1/4 inches for all three groups out of a 625 with red dot and my Bullseye load of 3.8 Bullseye and 200 gr. SWC.

I may try again later. The weak hand is pretty nasty

My right hand group really stinks, and I'm right handed!

S&W 2206. Grip mount for the red dot. Shot CCI standard velocity .22lr.

I have 2 of them. One kept iron sighted, and this one that I JB Welded the grip mount so it wouldn't come loose :)

They are both very reliable, but not a target trigger!

No. I can shoot with either eye, with either hand, at my own choosing.

But my right shoulder is sore at the moment, and when holding the gun out in my right hand, it was a bit strained.

I didn't include as part of my groups, but for the fun of it I tried some right handed groups with my elbow tucked in resting on my chest, and the groups were about 2 inches :) But I figured that method wouldn't be allowed for typical offhand pistol shooting. Do bullseye competitions allow that? I think it is accepted with rifle shooting, but I've never seen pistol shooters do it.

Been out of the competition game for a while, so not up on the current rules, but it wasn't allowed when I was shooting for score.

    Which is your Master eye?

I've seen some pretty strange gyrations in local IDPA matches and nobody has said anything. I don't remember it being addressed in the rules. When I teach concealed carry, I tell people, " whatever works for you to hit the target,". In this challenge anything goes.

Try it again if you want, but you're the leader now.

I don't have one, but I'm right handed.

Like I said, I can mix and match either of my eyes with whatever hand I want, at will. Right eye and right hand is natural and easy. Left eye going with left hand is natural and easy (but left hand isn't as good doing things as my right hand is). But it is also very easy for me, if I decide to, to go left eye with right hand, or right eye with left hand. Or go both eyes open, or close one.

Well, it won't be me. My Bullseye gun only has a RH grip; no way I can shoot it LH.

Got to the range yesterday and gave it the 'ol college try'. I don't remember the order that I shot the strings in but I posted them worst to best. I chose the 6" 686 with 38 WC's, felt good but damn that gun was heavy in the left hand.

Colin, nice gun! Interesting how your 2-handed groups are pretty consistent in placement, but the 1-handed groups kinda move around in location some.

    Deerslayer,
Single handed I struggled with the weight of the gun. Also, I shoot with both eyes open and bringing the gun up to my dominant right eye with the left hand just feels weird. I shift my grip and then my trigger finger is too long. This range session didn't turn out like I expected. I actually thought right and left hand groups would be much larger.
Thanks. This is a really fun challenge and for some reason I think .22 caliber is going to take it.
