I had to get sprayed with it, to be certified. It worked great on me. But I wasn’t using meth at the time.

A baton can increase your reach to 6 feet or further. That’s keeping in line with social distancing, isn’t it? It would slow down his speed in the quarter mile the next time he made a bad choice. For the next 10 or so years.

Talk about a blast from the past!

The chief we had at the time of the McDuffie incident banned Kel lites and maglights. We had to use flimsy aluminum or plastic lights that would just fall apart if you dropped them. Batteries shooting in every direction.

Thankfully that did not latto long. We got a new chief and he let us carry Kel lites or maglights whichever we preferred.

Out of the right side sap pocket to an overhand collarbone strike. Usually only took one of those.

Lots of factors in NYC contribute to this crap. It boils down to the $#!+birds in City Hall empowering these rats to do this on a pretty regular basis. The pols never back the cops, and legislate bizarro-world laws that work in these skells' favor. When there aren't any meaningful consequences, your options, good or bad, are endless.

Public sentiment in these neighborhoods is squarely against the cops, which doesn't make it easier (reference the crowd cheering the guy on - the amazement one guy voiced wasn't shock that someone did this to the cop, it was amazement that they got to witness such a "joyous spectacle.") Just another day in NYC.

I might be 49, but I would relish the opportunity to run down that ****head. Damn certain he can’t get far in those sagging skinny jeans!

Coward. Like a little dog biting an ankle from the back.

Once there are not free to go, you MUST control them. I’m not a cop, and even I know that.

Be courteous, be kind, whenever possible. NEVER allow them to mistake kindness for weakness.

Control the scene. ALWAYS. With courtesy, as far as courtesy goes.

40 years ago they would have given him a baton to the face. And he would deserve it.

My old chief used to say,

I’m going to disagree that officer was assaulted from behind by a punch to the head that brings hard hand tactics into play immediately. In my book that means elbows and punches knees and kicks

Absolutely no argument in cases like this, we had sort of veered off target into new guys afraid to initiate in general, that was what I was thinking of.

I said something like that at a training at the state academy. Some Seattle admin weenies (the instructors) freaked out and declared there is never any excuse for force ever and called my LT to express grave concerns about me. I was very proud of myself :D
