Ok, for all of you non-NYers, let me set this up.

    1. In NY (outside of NYC and it's surrounding environs), permits are "signed off" by a judge. Meaning, after the prints and the 4 references with notarized letters, and the background check (FBI, state & local), and the (sometimes) spousal interviews, and the sometimes interviewing of references, the issuing agency sends your/the paperwork to the county judge to sign off on your paperwork.

Then, and only then do you get a permit, although in MOST cases, those permits are restricted (employment, carry certain times, hunting, target, sportsman, some combination) or full carry.

    2. In many counties, when you wish to add a pistol to your uh, arsenal permit, that coupon to purchase has to be singed off by a judge before you actually take possession, or immediately (1-4 days) after.

BTW, this judge is a "friend" of pistol permit holders in his county.

Judges run on what they believe and are elected because of it... end of discussion... the people have spoken and voted their desires. I don't understand, unsuccessful, self-proclaimed watch-dog groups having a say in the matter after the fact. These folks are malcontents that believe their own personal desires are more important than the view of the vast majority. Ignore them and the social outcasts who found jobs in the media as they are only attempting to justify their failure in life.

He sounds like a decent judge to me. I guess the antis just don't like honest 2a judges.

You'll notice that he's also a democrat. Very very unusual in NY, so of course the pitchforks are out in full effect.

Democrats unusual in NYS? What have you been smoking?

There are pro-gun Democrats. Maybe that's what you thought was unusual

But seriously, and especially for local politics, the pro-gun Democrats need to be supported. Sometimes, the Republicans, like ex-gov Pataki, are the anti-gun ones.

People on GT don't seem to realize that :)

Hopefully, for the judge, it's just a slap on the wrist. Seems like a lot of hoops to jump through in NY for a person to exercise his or her 2nd Amendment right.

Ah NYS has no 2A rights- nothing in the state Constitution on the right! It s a law! To which NYS disreguards or doesn't enforce! Hence this is why they hate the COTUS and claim its not incorperated to the state level!
