Anyone think this movement will stick, and will cause other states to take notice of it and implement it? I hope not.

Absolutely ludicrous, and wil give the soda industry fits for lobbying other governing entities to not enact this nanny law.

    BTW it's over 20 ounces, not 16.

Other states? It's not a NY state law is it? Just some wacky NYC stuff, like not allowing guns.

Yeah, it would only affect NY City. And right now it's just a proposal, not the law in NYC (at least not yet). It may be enacted, it may not.

If anything, considering the general backlash, I'd think that other state and local governments would really think twice about proposing this sort of law.

Havent read threw any of it since no plans on visiting NYC, but are they going to ban refills as well? Limit you to one coke a day? Do you have to submit to a background check before buying a 12pack or 2 liter?

If the people of NYC allow it, they deserve everything they get.

If Obamacare passes, this will be our lives. Government will be able to regulate/tax anything that raises healthcare costs. This soda ban is a trial balloon to desensitize us...

Stores will just give away a "free memorial sports (pick your team) 40 oz cup" with the purchase of any 2 20oz drinks.

I hope it goes into effect everywhere. There are too many fat asses in this country. These people walk around with their bellies hanging out of their shirts. Where are all the thin girls I used to know? Now they are hopped up on so much sugar they look at me in a stupor when I talk to them.

The sugar today is also more powerful. The stuff from Jamaica is a hybrid that incorporates a potent cane from Africa. Kids today take one drink of this stuff and they are hooked. Three days later they have graduated to Red Bull-Gatorade cocktails. I know of one boy who buys 10 pound bags of pure white sugar and concocts some potion with Folgers and lemon juice. He sells it at a lemonade stand without a permit.

I've lived a long time and know that you just can't trust people to their own devices. These laws are done for the sugar addict's own good. I believe in tough love.

I always question where the authority to make laws like this comes from.

Just heard on the radio on my way home tonight that NY was looking at expanding the size ban to popcorn and milk drinks.

So in NYC you can't carry a gun, drink a 20oz soda but the bad guy kicks in your door at 2am holding a Glock in one hand and a 24oz Coke in the other:dunno:

I was thinking kinda the same thing. If a ban was proposed on 20+ oz. drinks, I could see all the soda companies coming out with 19.9 oz. bottle.
