For strength training, how many times a week do you work each muscle group?

Back in my powerlifting days, I always kept it simple - one time per week. A few bodyparts (biceps and triceps being two examples) seem to recover quicker, so I'd occasionally do them twice per week if time permitted (it rarely did). Abs can be done multiple times per week. Near a contest, I sometimes did deadlifts every other week or every 10 days.

I'm sure there's no set rule for this and others probably do something different. My knowledge is also 12-15 years old, so experts might be recommending deadlifts for 4 days in a row followed by squats 3 days in a row for all I know... ;a

I train everything once a week, except calves and abs, which I sometimes do twice a week.

I'm too sore to do the larger muscle groups more than once a week. Those babies need time to heal!

Basically, if the muscle is not sore at all, it is probably ok to train it again. Generally larger muscle groups need longer to heal, and smaller ones less time.

Thanks. Kind of what I was thinking.
