Who cares. This story was blown up and hyped up so much it made me sick. The pilots train for landing gear problems.

That was no crash. It was just a landing with a nosegear malfunction.

I noticed that there was no fire, until the Captain brought the nose gear exactly on centerline, as per landing training. Once the heat from the wheel hit and scraped up center stripe paint, that is when the fire started. It is obvious from watching the landing video that there is a flammable substance in the striping paint, perhaps a better procedure would be to land slightly to the left or right of center. Most likely the rubber would have begun to burn too, but the paint definitely exacerbated the fire. TimE

    Thanks, I enjoyed reading that.

Maybe the dribbling masses in the GNG forum would like it too?

I thought the fire came from the what was left of the tires on the front gear. I've never heard of runway paint being a contributing factor to a fire, but then again I've never really studied it either.

More like the magnesium nose wheels grinding away.
