I haven't been able to download the whole video yet(I have very slow dial-up internet). The NRA's Cam Edwards and John Frazer are talking about the anti-gun Violence Policy Center's report on gun deaths exceeding auto death's in ten states.

That is proof of you you can say anything you want with statistics.

All this really proves, if true, is that driving has become significantly safer in 10 states.

    Never trust a statistic.

Stop me if you've heard this one!

3 statiticians (bean counters) went bow hunting for deer. First one took a shot which sailed 10 feet behind the deer. Second one took a shot that went 10 feet in front of the deer. Third guy starts jumping up and down yelling "we got him, we got him!"

Wanna bet those "10 states" are the states with the strictest gun control?

Even if the "statistics" weren't there to be quoted, it still wouldn't stop the Brady/VPC pukes from saying it. They've never been noted for their honesty.

Don't worry, Nevada is working hard at reversing those stats, one pedestrian at a time....

So they are advocating more gun safety... which means more gun familiarity?

    (can't find the wink/sarcasm smilie)

Chicago is trying real hard. Their shooters need more range time, though.

    Skill up, brother.

Actually, that wouldn't fit with their agenda at all. It's the states with the least gun laws of course, because guns need to be regulated the same way toaster ovens and children's toys are.

Alaska: 104 gun deaths, 84 motor vehicle deaths
Arizona: 856 gun deaths, 809 motor vehicle deaths
Colorado: 583 gun deaths, 565 motor vehicle deaths
Indiana: 735 gun deaths, 715 motor vehicle deaths
Michigan: 1,095 gun deaths, 977 motor vehicle deaths
Nevada: 406 gun deaths, 255 motor vehicle deaths
Oregon: 417 gun deaths, 394 motor vehicle deaths
Utah: 260 gun deaths, 256 motor vehicle deaths
Virginia: 836 gun deaths, 827 motor vehicle deaths
Washington: 623 gun deaths, 580 motor vehicle deaths

I still can't believe they used Alaska...with their whopping 104 to 84 ratio....I'm sure the Alaska legislature will jump right into action...

If you go to the actual source of the statistics at the CDC web site, over half of the "gun deaths" they quote are suicides with a firearm. The "homicides" also aren't separated by justified vs criminal since the data comes straight from death certificates. Medically the cause of death is another human (homicide) but legally the cause of death could be participating in criminal activity and being shot by the intended victim, being shot by police, etc. I'm also not inclined to be concerned with mope on mope homicide either.

    Their data is pretty thin.

Hmm. Kinda curious what those numbers would look like if they didn't include self defense shooting deaths...

    Just a thought.

I agree. But they don't want those stats included.

I'd bet serious money that they would look the same. Self-defense shootings are a vanishingly small fraction of firearms deaths.

But I bet taking out suicides would cut it by 30%+.

Medical care and response times, too. There are always other factors.

I have a hunch that they are also not including deaths by carbon monoxide poisoning - where someone runs a hose from a vehicle's muffler back into the fully enclosed passenger compartment.

Or deaths where cars fell on people, killing them or where people got trapped in/under vehicles and died.
