The arrest of the FL shooter involved in what many were calling a "stand your ground" issue has certainly reignited this debate. I maintain my position that this is exactly how this event should have played out in the beginning. I welcome a discussion regarding this new page in the ongoing saga. I suspected that decision made my the Sheriffs office was not going to be the end of it. What say you?

The law is on trial, not the shooter.

Like I said in the original thread, he's going down one way or another. Mark my words.
That was NOT a righteous shoot!

Bad shoot from a hothead. Him getting arrested is the right decision.

Statistically, Stand Your Ground benefits blacks. Get rid of it if you want. Just expect to see people ***** about how innocent minorities are going to prison for self defense.

Watching it closely.. Multiple times you can see a pause before shooting where threat is not advancing, could be retreating. (From camera angle)

He was violently assaulted for what APPEARS a reasonable looking complaint on parking in handicap spot.
If he had taken pic, called non emergency # walked away. That old be more then enough.

Thing is legally I can chew out people as long as I don't restrict their movement, put them in fear for their safety, damage property, disrupt....
Without audio I don't KNOW but he didn't appear to be threatening physical force. He was violently attacked, there were multiple (possible) threats. He may have been shaken, scared and not acted as a person safe at home thinks.
IMO reasonable action. But in hindsight the second he fired (baring verbal, other threat we don't know). Was wrong time. IMO the threat was demishing....maybe. Few seconds earlier more justified. Or later IF suspect charged. (Again). Honestly on ground, threat that close ANY sign threat is going to continue makes deadly force reasonable response.

My personal decision is. Just because I can legally shoot does not mean I will. I don't want to shoot, will likelydelay too long. But rather then too quick for me.

It wasn't really SYG; it was self defense.

I'm betting it is determined to be a good shoot. Older white guy violently slammed to the ground by a younger bigger stronger black guy, just because the attacker didnt present a weapon his size, strength , intention and attitude constitutes a potentially deadly situation in my mind. Bet he walks, any takers?

I'm all for right of self-defense. As I watch the video frame-by-frame, it appears to me that as the shooter withdraws his weapon, the victim has already turned and has taken a step or two away from the shooter. I think it would be clear cut if he had been advancing or looming over him. But, it seems less clear cut to me as I see it.

I have a handicapped daughter and a parking placard. If I saw an untagged vehicle in a labeled spot, I might question an occupant, but it's not my place nor is it smart to get into verbal altercations. If it irked me enough I might call the cops and give the location and tag number and let them handle it. The fines are stiff.

If you carry, don't be a cowboy. It's often not worth it.

Or if he hadn't pulled the trigger, kept the gun on thug life until thug life actually left or attacked a second time, he wouldn't be going through what he is going through.

Instead, he pulled the trigger. It's a plus for society in that one more thug is in the ground, but he'll pay the monetary price, or he'll serve some time.

It's not a reasonable complaint on the parking spot. It's not his place to chastise people for their selfish behavior.

IMO if couple handicap spots open. Pausing in one while someone else runs in is NOT a big deal. Often there are half a dozen empty ones in each row.
Kinda like stopping in fire lane when wife says she is coming out the door. (But it takes 5 minutes) if needed by fire truck you could be moved before fire truck in parking lot.
