    Guys,

I want to go to the Prudential Center in Newark NJ next month for a concert.

I already know Newark is not a very good place to visit.

I plan on carrying my Glock 27 in an ankle rig.

Anything to know about this venue as far as weapons screening etc... The area, parking etc?

    Thanks,

    G-man

You do know to keep FMJs in the mag correct? Only state certified LEO or LEO with official business can carry HP, everyone else(including retired officers) use FMJ or EFMJ or the like. Good luck and enjoy your time.

They will not let you in if you are armed.

Sorry, never been there. I mostly try to stay away from Newark.

I have gone to many concerts at the Meadowlands and have never tried to carry inside. Security usually gives the old half-assed pat down as you're walking through the gates, probably checking more to see if you're smuggling booze inside. They would usually have NJSP Troopers posted near most of the entrances/exits there too.

I guess it all depends on their own policy. You could maybe call to find out but my guess is they wouldn't been to keen on having an out of state LEO carrying inside a venue with a few thousand (possibly drunken) people around.

    Have fun!

Yes, I keep a "NJ mag" with FMJ's in my safe since I live only 1 mile from the NJ border and travel there often.

    NJTTA150,

Man, that sucks.... I won't bother to go if I can't carry...I'm not leaving it in the car!

I have a contact at the sheriff's department there I will call him and see what he says.

Yeah they have a strict no guns policy. They do not care if you are an LEO.

Parking in the area is ok. They usualy have pretty good security, especialy if it is a large event.

You can try calling see if policy changed but I doubt it.

I don't go to venues where I can't carry. I don't trust others with my life and I don't enjoy anything or need to go see anyone that much that I have to go to a specific venue to do it.

Njtta, are you sure about the "no policy" carry for LEO's?

Newark PD works the security there.

I would think ID yourself at the door and you would be fine....just like getting into football games and basketball games at the Meadowlands.

Heck I wouldn't go either if not allowed to carry.

Why can't you carry HP rounds off duty? :wow: Hollow point rounds are not illegal in the state as many people think they are. I work for a federal agency in NJ and I'm authorized to carry my duty weapon off duty if I so choose and I would be breaking agency regulations if I didn't carry HP rounds....

I would imagine you would be good since you are a Fed?

    I won't risk it.

"It should also be noted that, as civilians, retired officers cannot legally carry hollow-point ammunition or utilize high-capacity ammunition magazines (capable of holding more than 15 rounds of ammunition) in the handgun they are carrying."

    http://www.state.nj.us/njsp/about/fire_hollow.html

I suggest you read up on it. In addition the OP is an out of state LEO, and IIRC the rules are you can only carry HP on official business.

You can carry HP rounds on of off duty because you are a Federal agent. As m2 pointed out, out of state LEO's as well as retired NJ LEO's may not carry hollowpoints as LEOSA is written.

The problem is if Gman were to shoot somebody, we cannot predict how the Essex County Prosecutor's Office would react to an out of state LEO having shot some poor misfortunate kid with those mean hollowpoint rounds when he wasn't supposed to have them. I sure wouldn't want to be the test case.

LEOSA in NJ is an old argument here on CT.
