I just saw a Glock 17 with a two tone finish [ silver slide] and the guy said it`s a nickel- boron finish, he went on to say it was a better finish than the tennifer thats on the slides. Does anyone have info to back this statement up. I kind of like the two tone finish but wanted the best finish.

The tenifer is not a finish. Tenifer is a treatment that actually penetrates the metal.

http://www.glockfaq.com/content.aspx?ckey=Glock_FAQ_Gunsmithing_Parts#tenifer
Surface hardening of steel and iron (to improve wear resistance) can be done by either allowing the surface of metals to react with either Nitrogen (nitriding), Carbon (carburizing), Boron (boriding), etc. TENIFER is termed for a chemical bath nitriding process whereby nitrogen is chemically released and introduced into the surface at a suitable high temperature to allow the chemical process to take place.

Thanks for the reply. I guess what I was getting at is this silver nickel-boron finish on the slide as good as the black tenifer finish that comes on most Glocks?
As the previous post says, the black finish is not the tenifer. Since the tenifer is in the metal of the slide you would save some cash and get a very nice finish if you simply bead blast the slide.

Nickel Boron, Is very similar to the NP3 process Robar uses. Its not really a coating but actually bonds/changes to the metal. Provides Lubrication and corosion protection. I have a g19 with it, it is really a nice finish.

Just do a google of it if you really want the scientific version of what I just said.

Thanks, I have seen the gun and liked it but just was unsure I was getting the right info from the salesman. I know the Glock finish is very good so I was just checking if someone had one of these, so it looks like you are happy with it, I really like to look, I`ve had so many all black guns, this is a change. I think I`ll go look at it again.

Yep that`s it but it`s in a 19 and 17. I`m guessing since you haven`t had it long, you haven`t made many observations yet but I do like the looks
Here's who dose them. You can actually send them your Glock slide and barrel and have it done cheaper then buying one.

I can tell you that it costs $79 for CCR to Ceraplate II (nickel/boron) a slide and that they turn it around in two weeks. I can also tell you that their work is above reproach and the finish is every bit the equal of Exo or Robar. I have all 3 and have not seen a difference in wear or appearance -- just cost and turnaround time.

Out of those two (CCR or Ceraplate II) what one is more durable? I have a old G23 I thought about sending them. :dunno:

I have a G26 EXO as well. It's my off duty weapon, and has held up great so far. I was never interested in this stuff until I got a Fail Zero coated BCG for my AR. When shooting it suppressed, the coated BCG makes a huge difference. One day I was looking around at the local shop and I came across the EXO G26 they had. The next day I bought it and have been very pleased.

While I'm sure CCR and the like are great coatings, I had a negative experience with a well known coating company (not CCR) a few years ago. The end result was fine, but the turn around time was WAY off, not to mention a few lies here and there. That single experience has forced me not to send off anything again, unless it's to the manufacturer for a warranty problem.

Tony, CCR does the Ceraplate II process -- it's their updated process that replaced Ceraplate. I now have 3115 rounds thru my EDC Walther PPS (which gets plenty of holster time) and you cannot tell a difference in the finish from the day I received it back from CCR. I know this because I have another PPS that they refinished at the same time as the carry gun....that gun has not been fired nor carried. I cannot tell a difference in the finish on the two slides.

By the way, I have no connection with CCR - only a customer.
