I recently purchased my first gun, a Glock 22, but of course am already planning my next purchase. As of right now I'm considering a revolver (perhaps a S&W 686P with a 4 inch barrel) or a 1911.

    What do you guys think?

    S&W 686 is a fine weapon!

I love my 686, but the 1911 is my favorite handgun. :)

My 686 is one of my favorite handguns. I want to say get both, but since you already have one autoloader get the revolver.

However, if Bac starts posting his 1911 pron you will think otherwise.

1911's are nice, but a revolver is a must have in your collection.

Entry level 1911 runs from $400~700, if that's your budget, might as well look for a 686. But if you have $1k and up, mid level 1911 will be a great investment for beginner shooter.

You want to shoot or do you want to show off?

If you want to shoot then get the 686P.

Depends on what you want to do with it and your budget. A good 1911 with cost much more than the wheelgun.
If you've only got one handgun, I'd opt for a nice all-around rifle. I recently bought a Winchester 94 Trapper in .45 Colt. The gunsmith should have the trigger job complete by the end of the week.

A GP100 or a 686 are hard to beat. Depends on what you are looking for in a 1911. A 1911 in the price range of a GP100, will probably be a very basic 1911.

Very true. Everyone needs a .357 revolver AND a 1911.
