My son welded me up a solid stainless steel frame from which to hang a large AR550 gong at my home range. Its solid as hell and absolutely square. I will really enjoy this at the longer rifle distances and also for pistol and carbine training and just plain plinking fun. Gong-Stand.jpg

Very nice indeed. I just built my own stand for two 8 inch swinging plates. Doesn't hold a candle compared to your stand, but it's very portable, sets up and takes down in 10 seconds. The re-bar legs just slide into the pipe sleaves and the cross bar through holes in the gusset plates. Lot of fun at the gravel pit.

I let my neighbor kid (20ish) use my range and he shot my stand.

He's the kind of kid that if you let him do anything, he'll break it :)

Both stands look really nice. I like the range for the gun club I'm a member of but would love to have an additional plinking bay with a bunch of steel set up a varying distances. They only have one bay with a plate machine but it gets boring pretty quick.

I shoot mainly steel on my range at the club and at home.

I love the gong. Your son did great.

I did The Last Stands system which is just silicone molded joints that you use with 6 pieces of 5 foot rebar.

You can hang several targets across which can serve as a plate rack or hang up a few gongs. On one set I have 6 inch plates and the other has 4 inch plates.

I set the standard higher for further distances since the IDPA A zone is 8 inches.

Ha-Ha....I kinda' copied the Last Stand's idea and welded up some old scrap for the brackets. Hope the patent police don't come knocking on my door.

The only way I can think it might be improved is change the body of the hangers to tire tread or something of the like. That way they can take a hit or two and keep hanging.

I tend to hit hangers, stands, chrono screens, etc.

Very efficient angles. I know engineers that could have got that done with 4X the parts.....

    I dig dinging the plates.

I harvested some free railroad tie plates for my range. They come with holes, so they are super easy to hang, and they hold up wonderfully to handgun ammo. Here they are painted orange.

    Hi, Scott...

I have two of those in my garage. You gave me another idea for pistol rounds. Thanks!
