First post, from a longtime lurker and three year GSSF member. Some random thoughts on GSSF: - first and most important, it's fun. You get to shoot your Glocks, meet old friends and make new ones, travel a bit (more for some), and take part in a unique competition that, to my knowledge, is not available from Sig, Hk, Beretta, or any of the 1911 genre. By the way-- have met the Florida traveling contingent, and they are great ambassadors for GSSF. -second, the competition is on a level playing field. Yes, guys (and gals) who practice more tend to shoot lower scores. Good for them-- it's incentive for me to get to the range more. I compete mostly against myself, but I also look at the match standings and look for the other shooters who are usually near my general order of finish. I have finished in the lower half of the A flight on my best days, and less well when I don't execute the basics. Can't imagine how or why someone might try to sandbag in order to win a pistol. Would rather finish last in A fight than first in B flight-- something like being the last man on a major league roster rather than a minor league starter. Don't get me wrong-- I'd enjoy winning a pistol, but would rather set a personal best. -finally, I was disappointed to see some matches cancelled (Dallas, Shreveport), but will adjust. Am in the middle of an indoor match in Houston, and will make San Antonio for sure. Schedule conflicts will preclude me from getting to Lubbock, but hope it goes well. Am making the road trip to Atlanta in October. Will try to recruit some friends to GSSF-- maybe get a team together. Will look forward to meeting some of you at future matches.
