New Zealand first responders...

    The shooting was terrible, and there are other threads about it. This is a question about the emergency responders...

    Looking at some articles about it, one thing I noticed were people with yellow vest that say "Observer" on them. Who are those people? They are right with the EMS at the ambulances.

    Usually worn by student paramedics or other ride alongs. Anyone who is with the ambulance crew but not a paramedic. I can't remember what was on the ones I wore when doing ride alongs as part of my police advanced medic training.

    So possibly student paramedics, possibly ambulance administration or other staff who just grabbed a vest on their way out the door to help.

    There was almost 100 people shot, they needed everyone they had.

    Fire and Emergency New Zealand have observer vests too for non fire brigade people riding on fire trucks.

    Good. We have spare, generic "Fire Dept" vests for people who need quick, visual identification at big calls.
