Not sure if I really believe this. How the heck could anyone drive that fast across country and not get thrown in jail several times, and only have to stop for gas once??

Maine man drives across country in less than 26 hours
Fred Ashmore Jr. rented a Mustang and drove from New York City to California in 25 hours and 55 minutes.

HANCOCK, Maine — A man from Hancock said he's set a personal record by driving across the country in less than 26 hours. He said it may be the fastest anyone has done it.

Earlier this spring, Fred Ashmore Jr. said he rented a Mustang and drove from New York City to Redondo Beach, California, in 25 hours and 55 minutes.

Ashmore said he drove at an average speed of nearly 108 miles per hour and only stopped to fuel up once. He said he's always been able to go without little sleep, and used technology to try and avoid police.

"For me, it's a natural ability. I've always had to stay awake. And as far as the officers go, I had a few minor run-ins with one in the Los Angeles area. I avoid them by using some of the countermeasures I add to my car," said Ashmore.

Ashmore said he modified the car by removing seats and added a fuel tank.

He is no stranger to solo runs. This is his fourth. Ashmore said he's hoping to race around the world in the next few years.

NO I don't believe it...I used to drive from Downtown NYC to Ft Lauderdale (1300 miles) in 20 hours just gas stops (many years ago) and that was driving part time at 90 - 100 mph in my 911.... I had to leave a a specific time to avoid traffic clusters in cities along the way, it was not an easy trip...

Did he have a refueling tanker rolling with him?
Maybe he modified the Mustang to run on pee: only way I can think of going 1400 miles without refueling.

I thought this was a political thread suggesting NYC would virtually BE California in 26 hours. That would be believable.

Think about having a 130 gallon gas tank in the area right behind you. At 7 pounds per gallon, that's over 900 pounds of fuel which probably did terrible things to the handling of the Mustang.

At a 100+ MPH speed, and a fatigued driver, the chances of a wreck are high. I don't want to go anywhere that badly!

Sorry, my BS flag is flying!

    I believe it.

I ran Jacksonville FL to San Diego CA alone on a motorcycle in less than 42 hours. That included a 6 hour stop for sleep halfway.

Coast to Coast in less than 50 hours is a regular run for Iron Butt Association motorcycle riders. The rides are documented with all stops logged and all gas receipts with time and date stamps.

The hardest run I ever made was 1,535 miles in 20 hrs 57 mins. I never got off the bike after the halfway point. Fueled while still straddling the bike.

Yes, but I can make much better time in a car without the exhaustion of fighting the bike. My bike did not have cruise. I also had to stop every 150 miles for fuel.

    Sit, Twist, Refuel, Repeat...

Guys making serious attempts at records like this usually have witnesses, fuel receipts and other evidence to present. I haven't watched the video, how convincing is it?

Probably not too bad if he removed a couple hundred pounds of seats and other bits. I can feel a difference between driving Mrs. Harldane's Camaro solo and having 3 passengers and a trunk full of cases of wine which was probably ~800 extra pounds over solo. Handling was fine, especially for highway driving, but there was a slight but noticeable loss of acceleration off the line and up hill. Didn't notice anything at cruising speeds.
