I spent this afternoon at the dealership purchasing my first new vehicle. I was going back and forth between a Ford F150 and a Toyota Tacoma, and ended up getting the Taco. The salesperson was very pleasant to work with, minimal negotiations, I just told them what I was spending and they made it work. It should be in tomorrow, I will get some pics up when I get it!

Congrats on the new truck! I love my Taco. 161,000 some odd miles on my '05 Double Cab Prerunner.

I'm toying with going with a Tacoma. (The other main possibility is a Subaru Impreza wagon.) If you don't mind, how much, which version and what options?

The Tacoma trucks do seem pretty popular. My neighbor has one that looks very nice inside.

I can only assume they have fixed the frame rusting issue on the new models? I only ask because they have been having some issues with recalls recently.

I actually traded in a 00 Subaru Impreza for it. I love Subaru's and had I gotten a car it would have been a WRX. I went with an 2010 Access Cab 4X4 TRD Sport with an Automatic transmission. I got it for 28,400 which was 300 over dealer invoice. On top of that I got a 1000 rebate for being a recent grad. I plan on keeping this for at least 100,000 miles.

    That's music to a car salesperson's ears!

As long as you are happy, congrats!

They are a nice unit to get people/stuff around. From what I understand its not the best choice for heavy pulling/hauling.

Pics will come once I get my effing truck. I can go snap some of the little 2.7l 2wd they gave me until it gets here. I probably could have gotten a better deal, but this was my first time purchasing a vehicle.

I have 105,000 on my 07 double cab 4x4 Tacoma. I think it will last you much longer than that. I figure I should get about 300k out of this one before I buy another. But I might go with the Tundra next time. And keep the Taco as a spare.

Just follow the maintenance schedule and you'll get well over 100k out of it. I've been mostly a Ford truck guy (like the interior and looks a lot), and I've had good luck. Father-in-law is a Toyota truck guy and has had good luck as well.

On the flip side, I've seen versions of both that weren't worth the value of the metal used to make them, so I don't really buy into many of the common claims you see out there.

I'm not really brand loyal, BTW...just happens I like current Fords best.

Now all you need is the bumper sticker that says, "Yes, this is my truck. No, I will not help you move."

Congrats on the new vehicle, I love driving a pickup.
