A 91/30 built in 1938. Picked her up today after thinking about it for a week and doing some research online.

Good looking rifle you got. I been thinking about getting another m44 for the truck and a 91/30 for the range.

Nice looking 91-30. They are still amongst the most under rated deals out there. Now you need an M44.

I was surprised that a lot of places have ammo for it.

I picked up cheap boxes of fmjs from Cabelas that were around $11 a box. Found out later a local gun shop had the same stuff for $10 a box. Forget what it was though, I think something with a bear on.

I was going to buy a spam can full of it, but it was corrosive and the stuff I ended up getting is not.

I have a 91/30, M44 and a 91/30 with the sniper scope. They really are a good deal right now. I had a friend, who is a pretty good shot shoot at a clay pigeon set up on the backstop of the local range 220 yards out. I used my spotting scope to see how far off the gun was at that range. He hit it first shot. Not bad for iron sights on a gun that was built 70 years ago with loose tolerances. (FYI, he was able to back up that first shot also, so it wasn't just luck).

Now if I could learn to shoot it as well as he can.

As far as ammo, I usually just buy cheap surplus corrosive stuff because they are easy to clean. I have a few rounds of HP and soft point just in case I want to do any hunting with it.

    Enjoy!

I like the M38 the best out of the Mosins. Had one a couple of years back that would 3" at 100 yards with irons.

These are fun to shoot. Everyone should own one or two. A friends father in law from Germany (the east side) came to visit. I took him to the local range. He called the M44 "Elephant Killer"

they really are the best deal out there. i love mine its a great shooter. there is a lot of good info about the history of mosins on 7.62x54r.net. my buddy just bought 2 and went on 54r.net and found out the one was an ex sniper and the other was a dragoon. any surplus ammo will work fine.
