I just got a slightly used G21SF with Glock rail, Glock light with the Ambi mag release for $360. Austrian proof marks. 18.00 transfer. Guide rod end was broken and I ordered a new one for 6.01 from Express Police Supply.

I was in a gunshop when the owner offered it for sale to the shop manager. The manager took the gun apart and found the broken guide rod and turned the seller down. I then approached the owner and asked him what he was looking to get. He said 350 or $400. I offered 350. He accepted and I gave him $360. For once a deal for me.

The guide rod end was missing about a third of the large circle end. Still seems like it will function. I don't think there is any reason not to try it out before the new rod is in. Opinions.

Also, would improperly seating the guiderod in the slide during reassembly cause this kind of breakage?

There is a video in youtube were the G19 was torture with a thousand rounds, the guide melted and the pistol was still shooting without it. But if I was you, I would wait until the new guide rod comes in, just to be in the safe side.

Are you certain that your 21sf has ambi and a glock rail? I thought all ambis had the picatiny rail.

I'm not saying you should shoot it before the new guide rod, but I would.

You got a great gun for a great price.

If the 21sf has 1913 (picatinny) rail it will have ambidextrous safety. The standard Glock rail-equipped come in either ambi or non-ambi.

To the original poster: Great deal on a great weapon. It'll shoot with the recoil spring just the way it is. A good idea to replace it though.

    Enjoy it!

Sorry Viniglock. I didn't know truebeliever posted his thread:embarassed:

I did shoot it w the broken guiderod. No Malfunctions. The guiderod would just fall off the slide when I broke down the gun.

Yup, that's the best way to do it! :)

Anytime the slide is removed from the frame, the guide rod should be reseated into the round assembly notch prior to putting the slide back on the frame....even if the rod was not removed from the barrel/slide, it should still be reseated.

I did have a third gen G21. Sold it to a friend. When this came up and was an SF I figured I'd jump back on. Don't think I would have bought it if it wasn't an SF. Like it a lot.
