As a Slayer fanatic I'm ashamed to say that today is my first day of listening to the full album. Despite many naysayers in the metal community, I must say, I think it's pretty solid. "Vices" is probably my favorite so far. "When the Stillness Comes" is also pretty good. Chasing Death, Implode, Pride in Prejudice are also good ones.

Many say that with Dave Lombardo gone and Jeff Hanneman dead, Slayer is gone as well. **** that. Paul Bostaph is a better drummer than he gets credit for and Gary Holt fits in well, I mean he's from Exodus.

ETA: "Piano Wire" is the song that Jeff contributed to before he died.

I remember when Dave first left thinking that whoever Slayer brings in to replace him will have some BIG shoes to fill, but I think Paul Bostaph has done just fine. He might not have some of Dave Lombardo's flair, but he definitely is no slower, and very technically precise. One of the best metal drummers in the business, IMO. He did very good work with Testament, too (with whom he seems to switch back and forth from Slayer with; never sure who he's playing with for good.)

I'll have to check out this new album; and you might like my sig, OP. ;)

Stain of Mind, Diabolus in Musica, 1998.

Probably my favorite song on that record, along with Bitter Peace.

Gary Holt definitely has the chops. Exodus has the fast, crushing riffs similar to Slayer.
I'll have to check out the new release.

ETA: it's available on Amazon Prime Music. Nice!!

I only have one Slayer album.

As with most very heavy metal music, the music is 10x better than the vocals. Interesting that Slayer is still going. I wasn't aware.

I dig the video for the title track. It has a lot of horror alumni in it.

Yep. I listened again. Vices is a pure ****ing jammer. My favorite on the album. It has several cool hooks and the main riff is brutal.

Good to hear it. I often refer to Slayer as "The cure for American radio."

Big IM fan here. The Book of Souls is really good in my opinion. The Empire of the Clouds is the new The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner. What a song....

Bostaph had already filled the shoes once before. He was Slayer's drummer for a good 10 years or so throughout their career.

I always liked Gemini (with Bostaph)

I've not heard the new Maiden album yet. I'm not a huge Maiden fan but I respect their contribution to metal. I prefer Priest over Maiden but thats just me. Redeemer of Souls was great IMO. What's great is all the best metal bands of old are still cranking out material, that's great. Sabbath had 13 and are doing one more final album and Motorhead had Aftershock which was great too. Real music is still hangin in there.

Anyone who tells me Paul Bostaph isn't at Dave Lombardo's level I kindly direct them to Divine Intervention. The best drumming he's ever done.

I am thrilled it debut so high. I have been drawing pentagrams of fire and tossing bones in the hope that metal will come back!
