Thinking of reloading for my .357 SIG using lead bullets for IDPA. How about some suggestions for bullets and loading data? Thanks

I use twoalphabullets.com 122gr LTC bullets. I don't have any chrono information, but what I use for practice is 10.7gr of AA#9, 7.2gr of Unique, or 6.5gr of Silhouette.

Have you thought about just doing a conversion barrel. No one at a local match is going to notice or even care if they do know. A nice slow .40 cal vs a speedy .357 in lead seems to favor the .40 cal to me.

That bullet will work fine, I load a sim. one in my P239. I found 7gr of Unique or 7.1gr of WSF, runs right about 1200fps, which produces good accuracy w/ little leading. If you want to run faster, I would suggest plated, but your bbl may be ok w/ hard cast lead bullets to 1300fps.

    You don't need a conversion barrel for a P229 in 357 sig. A factory 40 S&W barrel just drops in. That's what I did.

Thanks to all. This gives me some idea of a starting point.

Thats what I meant by a conversion barrel. It converts it from .357SIG to .40 S&W.

A good medium load in .357sig uses a 124gr bullet and Universal Clays (a Hodgdon powder.) Check the web page, but IIRC it was 5.6ish grains that made a really nice load. I used Berry's FP/TC 9mm bullets, they're flat enough to give you something for the neck of the casing to grab onto.

I wonder how much I can drop the Unique recipe to make it bunny fart and still accurate...
