Hi, I bought a Glock 21 back in 1996, never picked it up from the dealer, the guy dies, his estate gives it to the local PD.

Hello 2005, I'm picking the gun up in a few days (schedule permitting).
To my knowledge, no one, not the dealer, the PD, myself have fired or cleaned that gun since 1996.
Should I have a gunsmith give it a once over?

Is there anything special (outside of normal care) that needs to be done?

    Thanks!

I'm not going to the link, but do know that you don't need a gunsmith to field strip (or detail strip) a Glock. All it needs is a cleaning, lubing and shooting.

So I put 50 rds thru the gun. A few of the 1st 10 were reluctant to feed but after that - it was ok.

What's "copper antisieze"? I notice that with the action open there's some gold/rust looking stuff at the back underside of the top piece...

    MBR,

I bought the gun in 96?, and pretty much FORGOT about it, while clearing out my office (lease expired) I came across the receipt. I'm not alone. When I went to sign for my gun, I signed on a page about 15-20 long of guns that the cops (Greenburgh, NY) had - not guns being held for evidence...just guns that were surrendered by estates, the same dealer that had mine - whatever.

Greenburgh PD had had my gun since 1999! The only bummmer is that the estate of my (then) dealer swapped out the 2 x 13 rd magazines for one 10 rd magazine. It was at the PD for 5 yrs, and to my untrained eye, did not have a SINGLE blemish or indication of ever being fired.

Stupid question: What's the warranty on a Glock Pistol?

Despite information in the manual that declares a 1-yr warranty, Glock will repair that Glock forever...free. Did you field strip, clean and lube the G21 before shooting? Shouldn't require anything else.

Yes. Did that...and yes, the copper stuff was still there.

Also called Glock, they asked me to send the gun in for a free (minor) update. Gun was MFG'd in 1995.
