    now that's an understatement. ;)

its impossible to browse dpreview now because of all the threads about it. everybody and their brother and sister had to start their own thread about.

    remember this?

had to do some diggin' for that one.;)

but seriously, will you consider it if the price is in the $1000 range?

There's a flash ad up on Nikon's site, too.

Yes, I remember my disapproval of the $2000 10 MP Nikon.

But this one may essentially be a D70 with a 10MP sensor.
If it is priced at about $1250, with kit lens, it would be acceptable to me, even if it has the SD memory card which it does. See the photos on DP Review.

See also what Ken Rockwell has to say without his sources revealed:
    http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/d80.htm

Normally 6MP should be acceptable for most users. I sometimes make very large blow ups of my photos for maximum impact. Larger than 16 x 20, so I need the extra MPs.

Well, the info is up at Nikon's site and everywhere else. Pricing looks fine at $999 for the body and $1299 with a new 18-135 AF-S kit lens.

Not my cup of tea (I shoot action with a D1 and am looking at a D2Hs for a replacement), but it looks like a best-in-class camera to me.

could be. I was surprised at the flash sync speed capapbility being reduced to 1/200. might have to do with the different shutter.

I hate to admit it here but I just sold a Glock 27 to help me pay for the D80 which I will buy.

I still have another G27 as well as two G22s (one of which is also for sale) and a G19.

Nothing wrong with that, unless of course the remaining G27 now gets lonely. :clown:  Seriously, the D80 reads like a very nice camera. Let us know how you like it once you get it and have chance to put it though its paces.

    Need help guys

I'm looking for my first DSLR

I can't decide between the D80 and the Canon 30D.

Don't have any lenses that I need to worry about (other than my old Nikon lenses but I wouldn't use them anyway)

    Any opinions?

Lots of them, and none constructive. ;) (just kidding)

Given your parameters, I think you need to handle both cameras, see which one handles better for you, then make sure it does have the features you consider critical, and go for it. However, if you are thinking of going for the 30D, have you thought of considering D200 as well?

    So much for contemplation

I went and tried out a 30D at lunch and really liked it, so I bought it.

That Canon 30D is one fine camera.

Do you also have the kit lens (18-55) for wide angle shots?

Post some shots when you can.
