I'm not a fan of Kel-Tec 22s and I think their new CP22 looks hideous but their new P17 looks interesting to me. It's a compact size gun with 17 rounds of 22lr and a suggested retail price of $200 which should put it are the $150 mark in the real world. I'm not jumping on it right out the gate but if it does well I will probably pick one up down the road.

If that runs reliably and I find it on sale in the $150 range itll be hard to pass up for an inexpensive training gun to start new shooters off with. I wouldnt mind a .22 plinking pistol myself.

Well, won't be seeing any of those in CT. Too many rounds, and a threaded barrel. It's an "assault plinker."

I own a few KTs and wanted to get a PMR30 but just didn't like the feel of it but for the price I can get use the feel of the P17.

Fugly. But if it works, I might get one. The PMR30 was a disappointment.

    Wow, interesting.

With the introduction of this sub $200 22 pistol (the Taurus tx22 is now under $200 with rebate as well) maybe Ruger will put a more reasonable price on their SR22. Im a fan but I've always felt the SR22 was about $100 too much.

This KT P17 will give both the Ruger and Taurus a run for their money. I'd buy one.

I'm a big Kel Tec fan,but the last thing I need is another gun, any gun.....

but if I ran across this seventeen round P17, for $150,, I would have to buy it.

I like this type of gun and equipped with a good rail mounted laser/light, like this Ruger SR22, it's an excellent night/day, very handy, hang by the back door gun.
And 17 rounds would be better that 10.

I saw a add about them last night for the first time, look's neat plus I like weird looken gun's. I think that would be nice for getting out and plinking at cans and old clay targets.

Looking at the KelTec description, I see it has an "excellent" trigger. That would be a first for KelTec.

I'd like to see these higher capacities implemented in real 22s like MKIV, Buckmark, Victory. I don't have much use for a carry style rimfire.

I have thought the same thing about the MKIV and Buckmarks myself.

There will always be things that look interesting, that is, until one actually experiences them up close and personal...and often times this is when things start to become clearer.

My only foray into Kel-Tec land was a KSG because it looked interesting and unique, but it didn't take long before I came to the realization that I'd never own another Kel-Tec - anything. Between the overall design, choice of materials, and lastly the execution of the aforementioned, all their products emit a certain cheesiness both inside and out in the very same fashion that Hi-Point, Jimenez, etc. products do, which I just. can't. tolerate.

What everyone else decides to choose is their prerogative as it's not my choice but theirs alone as to how they spend their own money, unless of course they're coverin' my back...then by George I have a right to speak up!!

Thankfully my firearm choices aren't initially made or determined by price; if there's something that interests me yet is beyond what I'd normally consider within my price range, I take the time to investigate it further, and if it gets the green light after all possible considerations, I have patience and save up the necessary coin for it, instead of letting the "spur of the moment" take over my senses and wallet just so I can come home with some cheap POS and say, "Hey, I just got a new (insert: latest firearm purchase)!!!"

That design makes me wonder if there would be a market for a centerfire .22 pistol cartridge that put a little more power behind a 40gr bullet and wasn’t rimmed.

kind of an ugly looking thing but why is it called a P17 when it has a 16 round magazine? I notice it has ambi safeties. Is it meant to be carried cocked and locked with one in the chamber?

That is one ugly pistol. But, if it works, good for Kel-Tec for doing things a bit differently.

I've only owned a few KelTecs, the one thing I can't stand about the new models is they have more screws in them than a Vegas bunny ranch.
