came from somebody at work. Can't believe these are actually true, figured somebody here would know for sure:

fyi... here are a few new laws that will be coming into effect on July 1st.
the one most of us will have to be careful about is driving while using our
cell phones, (unless it's hands free) it's going to be against the law on
July 1 - so be careful out there!

    ----------------------------------------------------
    New Indiana Laws effective 7/1/07

    New Driving Fines for 2007

    1. Carpool lane - 1st time $1068.50 starting7/1/07 (The $271 posted on the highway is old). Don't do it again because 2nd time is going to be double. 3rd time triple, and 4th time license suspended.

    2. Incorrect lane change - $380. Don't cross the lane on solid lines or intersections.

    3. Block intersection - $485

    4. Driving on the shoulder - $450

    5. Cell phone use in the construction zone. - Double fine as of 07/01/07. **Cell phone use must be "hands free" while driving.**

    6. Passengers over 18 not in their seatbelts - both passengers and drivers get tickets .

    7. Speeders can only drive 3 miles above the limit.

    8. DUI = JAIL (Stays on your driving record for 10 years!)

    9. As of 07/01/07 cell phone use must be "hands free" while driving. Ticket is $285. They will be looking for this like crazy - easy money for police department.

I tried to find a reference to any of this and could't...

    Number 7 is obviously false...

    7. Speeders can only drive 3 miles above the limit.

You of course can get a ticket for driving 1mph over the limit...

figured they all were. Was pretty sure I would have heard something about the cell phone law, and the fines for everything seem ridiculous. Didn't know if this was a well known email or something...

Does any highway in Indiana even have carpool (aka HOV) lanes?

Just because someone at IUPUI received the e-mail does not mean they are talking about Indiana. This originated from some East Coast Eloi state.

Just another example of Kirk's First Law of the Internet (people will always talk about the laws of other states rather than the laws where they live).

Crap. my favorite place to drive!
What about it's backed up, and your exit is 1/2 mile on the right?

Those aren't for Indiana. The fines don't match what we use.

Not to mention the 3 mph over. And +1 on the HOV lanes, I have never seen one either.

And the cell phone thing is obviously bogus.

I've never seen a carpool lane in Indiana. Do they exist?

Carpool lanes must exist in Indiana since they exist in other states.

Can you drink in the carpool lane while carrying a firearm in Texas if less than 50% of the car's owner's revenue comes from alcohol sales?

Oh, and speaking on behalf of the good folks of Greenfield, FTHorn, all is forgiven...
