Very cool! It was easy to setup compared to any windows pc.
    1. Take it out of the box and take off the protective plastic
    2. plug in keyboard, mouse, power and network cable
    3. start up.

then added internet log in stuff and pop address.

done! She wanted to update software so I let her. easier than pc for sure!

Bright display! Nice speaker sound! \

Big Question: I cannot find the firewall if it has one. any help? I take it virus protection is also off site? Spyware apps?

    Thanks!

    Congrats, Bill!

    Firewall is under 'System Preferences->Sharing.

I don't configure mine beyond 'On', and turning on Printer sharing.

There's no reason on earth to worry about virus and spyware software right now. Unlike Windows, where it's the very first thing you do, if you decide you've got a need to run it, you can do it whenever. Given that there remain effectively zero virus/spyware in the wild for the Mac, it's just not a priority.

I don't currently run any at all.

Thanks Dean. I found it and clicked it on. No need for virus and spyware protection? Very strange new world I am in.

any must have programs? I think my first may be the open office for mac.

    any must have links?

Im not sure about Safari. May need a different web browser. Firefox maybe.

btw, I really like a 20 inch wide profile screen!

and it is very very quiet. I cannot even tell it has a fan. I am not so sure about the mighty mouse either. I am so used to a trackball.

The remote is cool too. Even tho I have little idea what it does yet!

I havent even opened the booklet yet!

Bill, welcome to the world of cool computers! Give the mighty mouse and Safari a chance. They're both very cool. Remember it's a new world. Embrace it all.

When you get it all figured out, I need help with my wireless router. This might call for a new thread.

    Bill:

No NEED for antivirus, but many Mac resources highly RECOMMEND antivirus software be installed. May not be necessary to protect your iMac, but will prevent viruses from being passed on to others. I use Intego's VirusBarrier.

Is that the one to get, or is their a choice of several like on PC's?
