After procrastinating I finally broke down and bought myself a Ruger 10/22. Nothing fancy yet just a standard black/synthetic with a simmons scope that I got from gander mountain on a whim. Don't know which way I'm going to take it but more than likely it'll be a butler creek folder to match my mini-14 and possibly urban digi duracoat. Still looking at alot of different possibilities so it's all up in the air. For now here it is.

Congrats!

Just be careful... modding a 10/22 is seriously addictive. It starts with an auto bolt release, then a Power Custom hammer & sear kit... next thing you know, you're putting on a new barrel. :)

The 10/22 is just tons of fun. The 10/22 has very strong after market support. You can mod it from mild to wild. The most fun part of any .22lr firearm is the inexpensive ammo. At $18 for a 550 round brick of ammo at my local Wally World, I can afford to pull the trigger a lot.

Ya I'm seeing that in all the 10/22 threads. The auto bolt release thing is a definate go as that mechanism is AFU'd. want to do the smoother trigger just don't exactly know what parts and from who yet. Got some research to do.

Congrats on the rifle! A .22 rifle is not a simply a gun, it is a household necessity. Everyone should have a hammer, a saw, some screwdrivers and pliers, and a .22 rifle.

I have had good results from Volquartsen parts for my trigger innards. Shoot and enjoy!

Go to:

http://www.rimfirecentral.com

The hard-core 10/22-ers are there. You'll see some unreal builds.

Here's my mild build:

  • Power Custom Hammer & Sear kit
  • Volquartsen Exact Edge Extractor
  • Auto Bolt Release
  • Urethane Bolt Buffer
  • PWS T3 10/22 Magazine Release Lever
  • BSA 3-9X32 Scope
I ordered everything but the scope from Brownells.

I'd get the trigger more reasonable 1st. There are some DIY options with current parts or you could do a Timney drop in, or other type. Besides rimfire central there are plenty of U-tube videos if/when you need guidance.

As far as the trigger, I just replaced the stock hammer with a Volquartsen hammer and my trigger pull is great now (<$40). I replaced the buffer with a synthetic one.
The bolt release is next on my agenda, otherwise mine is stock and very accurate.

I took the scope off mine and went with a Williams receiver sight and fiber optic front.

There is no humility in owning a 10/22 Do yourself a favor. ( or not) buy two. Mod the heck out of one and the other keep stock, then go back and see if there is that much of a difference in MOA of Squirrel. Great hobby guns but great shooters out of the box, if you are a great shooter :)

Well took it out this weekend and had some fun. Sighted the scope in at 25 yds. 10 rounds in a quarter at first after about 150 rounds scope mount started comming loose. Tightened it and happened again after another 100 rounds or so. Going to look into some loctite for the damn rail mount.

I did the same exact thing. Just use some blue locktite on the screws, and you'll be good to go.
