I picked up my GSSF Glock 17 Gen4 today (best deal around, but that's another story). Comparing it with my earlier G17 Gen4, it looks like they changed the recoil spring. My new G17 has a prefix of PPN and the spent casing was collected on 6/16/10. My earlier G17 has a prefix of PFE and the spent casing was collected on 2/5/10.

I left the pictures extra big so you can click on them to see the detail.

The spring is marked "02" on the rear:

Here is a comparison of my "old" G17Gen4 spring with the "02" version. Observing the outer spring, the old version is just shy of 20 turns and the "02" version is just shy of 18 turns. Too hard to see what the inner spring differences are (if any).

The slide on my new G17 is noticeably easier to draw back.

Good post & photos.... there has been some "recoil spring" issues talked about on other posts. It appears that Glock may have fixed the problem with the recoil spring as shown.

    Thank you

Nice post. You made me go check mine. I have the old style recoil spring. Mine has been 100% shooting my reloads. My son (12) had issues with it. He runs the G3 G19 100%. I am happy with mine the way it is.

While I have not had any issues thus far it is nice to know that some rumors do come true... Thanks for posting...

Thanks for sharing, seems like a simple solution that will solve this issue. Im glad they figured it out before the G19 Gen 4 is released

    good observation and pics.

it's so lame though that glock doesn't even tell anybody what's going on. they have to be the worst at marketing.

I guess Glock couldn't be bothered putting in a 02 spring, or sending one back with my G17 Gen4 as an option, when I sent mine in for repair.

I guess the service I got, or lack thereof, is part of that "Glock Perfection".

Long live the safe queen G17 Gen4!!!

I bet you'll be able to get the 0-2 part and you will be good to go thereafter...

Glad to see Glock offer that "new" spring, should fix the few issues people were having with their GEN4 17's. Looks like your "old" spring took a beating.

It's actually not too bad - the scratches look like they are through some kind of oxidation layer that has formed on the metal. The original picture makes it look worse than it actually is. Here's a side-down view of the "Old" guide rod end that seats on the barrel lug:

At the bottom of his original post, he said:

looks like the big spring on the 02 one has one less coil. I counted 18 or 19 on the original spring and 17 on the 02.

Now, How do we get one?
