"New" Gen 2, G17

I'm a fan of and own several compact and subcompact Glocks (23, 26, 30), but have been toying with the idea a getting a full sized 9 for (another) range gun. I wanted something with a longer barrel and a little more weight than the 26.

I really like the new 17s and 34s, but was trying to stay in budget when I found the gen 2 g17 at my LGS. The price wasn't great ($400) but the gun appeared to be in decent condition, so I bit the bullet. I checked with Glock and it was imported in Dec '94. It is now cleaned up, a new recoil spring is ordered, and I'm looking forward to the first range trip next week to see how it runs.

I think $400 is a reasonable price for a use G17 in good condition. A new Gen 3 17 would cost you $100 more. Please let us know how it runs.
Thanks FLAiredale, I'll post next week after some range time.
Pics, or it didn't happen!

Congrats! I still carry a Gen 2 on duty. A great gun and if yours is in good shape you got it for a great price!

Yep, gotta get the camera out. I need to document the pistol for my records, anyhow. I took it to the range last week and left totally bummed. Everything was fine for the first mag, then the FS broke off :crying:. The gun had NS which were dim, so had probably been on for some time, but still..... I stuck another FS on and will make another trip this week to see how she runs--wish me luck and I'll get the pix going!

Nice trio, Hugo. I also have a gen 3, G26 which is a great little carry gun and it accuracy continues to surprise me, especially with 147 gr. rounds. My only other Glock is a 30, which is a super gun in its own right.
Nothing beats a Gen2.Keep us informed on your progress. I'd get a new set of Trijicons for that beauty. tom.

I picked up the 17 last Wednesday, went to the range today, great shooter, could be my new IDPA gun. Good shape for a 16 year old gun (test fire 4/1/96) Holster wear, yes, but I was buying a shooter not a safe queen. Having probs. posting pics.
Awesome! Was the price the same?

The price was better, $328.60 OTD. (MI sales tax is .06%) Some how I have to my file before adding more pics.
I bought a 2nd gen 17 9mm from a Denver Sgt. in 1988. I've owned it since, and am allowed to have the 17 shot mags it came with! Just recently a Glock authorized armorer replaced alot of parts that were recalled. I had no problem with the weapon, but hey free replacement sure!

I love this weapon! Got a 6" barrel for it, for distance accuracy, shot in an Allstate Pistol Competition here in So. Cal, first time I got 3rd out of about 35 shooters!

In 88 i paid $500, so for $400 I would buy again! Contact Glock and see if they have any upgrades for your weapon.

Enjoy

Chuck
