My first post, my first Glock, my first pistol.

I grew up hunting, and had some experience w/ handguns in my youth. I shot in the USAF w/ the M9, but not much in the last 19 years.

My brother has the 17 and a buddy of mine got a 1911, so I got the jones a little. The 17 seems to fit my (large) hands really well, so I thought I'd give it a shot.

I'll be shooting my new rig for the first time tomorrow. I also got the AA 17-22 conversion, as my 12 yo will definitely want to shoot, and my wife has expressed an interest in learing, too. I thought the .22 would be a good introduction to handguns without the recoil associated with a larger caliber pistol. It will also be fun for just burning some ammo at the range without burning a hole completely through my pocket.

    Update,

I went to the range on Saturday (after 3 rounds of skeet) and put 150 rounds of Blazer 115g's through it my new toy. Gun works great, but I'm a little rusty. I did improve my groupings at 10 yards after a relatively short period of time.

Tried to use the 17-22 conversion, but the CCI rounds I had were too light and couldn't cycle the action. I ended up firing 1 at a time and only shot 35.

My 12 yo proved to be quite handy with it. He shot about 40 rounds and only had about 9 outside the 6" ring from 10 yards. His worst shot was high left by about 3" and that was on a "rapid fire" session with the 9mm. I was impressed considering he'd never shot a "real" pistol before. He had a big stupid grin on his face the whole time (I'm sure it matched mine). I may be creating a monster.....

Today, I did another 50 rounds of 9mm and about 250 22LR rounds through the conversion. That is a great little addition! It shoots where you aim it, and it cycles great with heavier/faster loads. I had a couple of "hangers" early on, but nothing after the first 2 or 3 clips. I did have 2 rounds that didn't fire, but I assume that's the nature of the beast when shooting bulk ammo.

Overall, I'm really pleased with my choice. I'm sure if I keep shooting I'll end up with a couple more calibers, maybe a 10 and a .45? Who knows...

G17 is the best gun ever. I like the 2nd gen best. And as you have already learned, there is a huge third party market for accessories.

Welcome! I just picked up a new G17 myself a few weeks back. I've only put about 200 rounds through it, but it's a nice gun to add to the collection. The G17 is the 9mm gold standard, IMO. Great gun.

Ditto. I bought one last week and took it to the range for the first time today. I shot 3 full mags of 4 different kinds of ammo through it, and it hummed right through all of them.

I've had four Glocks, and have never had a failure to (anything).

I'm amazed at the accolades this gun receives. I guess I shouldn't be suprised, considering I'm in a GLOCK forum...

I think I'll enjoy it. Thanks for the warm welcome.
