Brand new G19 gen 3, got it home and wanted to field strip & clean before first trip to range. Held down both takedown levers as usual but slide was really tough to get off of there (this is my 4th Glock and I've owned them for 4 years and field strip and clean all of them after every range trip so I do know what I'm doing).

Anyway, I cleaned it and put it back together and proceeded to try take down again, thinking maybe the cleaning and oiling might help but still is the slide doesn't want to come off of there. I'm thinking I might take it over to Glock in Smyrna to have a look. Has anyone experienced this or have any suggestions? Thanks much!

I'm not sure but it maybe something is caught on the firing pin, you might want to check it out by removing the rear firing pin cover and slide the pin out just to check if that is the problem.
Just pull the slide back far enough to allow the cover to be slid down.
Make sure you keep a finger over the extractor spring so it does not launch it self.

Does your trigger bar have a hump on the wing that interacts with the firing pin plunger safety?

If so, you have to kind of...wiggle the slide to the right to clear that hump.
I would almost bet this is your problem. My new G26 is the same. However, instead of wiggling the slide, simply depress the firing pin safety with the muzzle pointed downward. This will allow the firing pin to drop and the slide will go right on.

Nope; there is no bump on the trigger bar.

On occasion, I've had this on my Glocks that normally do not do that. I'm not sure of what is catching.

I just grab the slide, and pull hard. Look for a loose or broken piece afterward.
