    Howdy GTers,

Just got the CMMG stainless AR 22lr conversion kit in and hope to go play this weekend.

I have a couple questions from those of you that have them already.

I read on one of these threads that a different kit includes a gas plug. Mine does not, but would it be a good idea to plug that with something? Is dirty 22lr gunk in the gas system a possibility with this? If so, any ideas what would make a good plug? Duct tape?

I know not to expect match rifle accuracy, but is there any consensus on which 22lr works better? Does more of that come from the upper itself so there is no consensus?

Any tips, tricks or warnings from you fellas that have them?

The main goal for this is cheap fun for me, no recoil shooting for my little girls and trying to keep my son from bankrupting me.

    Thanks for any info.

    WB

I dont own one but i would think minimags would probably be best.... those make every 22 run great!

Run Federal bulk ammo. It's the best for reliabilty by far. Also just shoot a few rounds of .223 afterwards to clean the gas tube out.

I have the CMMG cheapo conversion vs. your fancy stainless! I use the federal and winchester bulk and run an occasional .223 down the pipe too. Been working well quite a while.

My super, superior, stainless kit and I scoff at you :tongueout:

Actually, I only bought the stainless because it was on super sale at CDNN last week. I ordered the blue (parkerized?) version from Botach and they messed up my order.

Yes. The CMMG kit uses recoil (slight as it might be) to cycle, not gas. Powder and crap get stuck in the gas tube. Throwing a few rounds of full power .223 will blow it out of the tube and into the receiver for easy cleaning.

Got to test it very briefly this weekend.

Ran fine with bulk Fed ammo. Not so good with Aguila 60gr stuff.

Hope to try again one afternoon this week.

    So far happy.
