The time has come to purchase new carpet. We had Berber installed when we built the house and it has held up extremely well. We will probably buy Berber again but the question I have is who to buy it from. We have the usual suspects HD, Lowe’s, The Carpet Man, Empire etc. Who does the GT Brain Trust recommend?

Ditch the carpet and tile the entire house. You can thank me later.

The proper person to ask is @bac1023 especially if you plan on taking photos with it

Have you considered hardwood or tile?

About have of the house is tiled. I want to rip everything out and tile the whole house with A wood floor pattern. I have been overruled.

In MN carpet feels nice in the winter. I can understand in FL tile might be nice.

There’s no such thing as clean carpet.
You NEVER get all the dirt out of it.
I like walking on it, as does my dog.
But I went all hardwood years ago.
    Much easier to maintain

For real long wear and ease of cleaning, it's hard to beat diamond deck plate.

Has to be a tough job for Mrs. bac1023 to vacuum around all those guns laying around the house.

Hope she has the ball type Dyson for those quick turns needed between firearms.

Who ever you end up buying from use their installers.

    A. When Home Depot advertises free install it's a shell game and the price of the install is factored into the price of the carpet and pad so if you buy at HD and find your own installer, you're paying for the install twice.

    B. If there is a problem with the install you'll have better luck getting HD (or whoever) to come out and make right than you would with some clown that works off of Craigslist.

Here that's gonna cost at least $25 sf. That would be on a nice slab and not cut up

But what if the carpet matches the drapes?

If you are looking for good carpet, it is best to go to a carpet/flooring specialty store. I would stay away from the big box stores.

We buy a lot of carpet for the buildings we manage and at our quantity, we take bids from our vendors for various finish out/price points. Installing carpet is not hard but ideally you want a vendor that has its own install crew not some schmuck they rented for the day to drop carpet.
