This is probably the single silliest financial move I've ever made, and it's going to require I tighten my fairly tight belt already. But, I found a large volume Chevrolet dealer that has decent allocations for the ZR1 Corvette, and he was willing to deal at invoice pricing.

    So I ordered one.

Delivery time probably won't be till mid-late March, which gives me plenty of time to sell my CTS-V. Then the torturous wait till delivery.

But it'll be good to be back behind the wheel of a Corvette. Even one that's going to stretch me financially. :)

Man, it might just be me, but that sounds a lot more dumb than silly. Maybe it's just me though and I shouldn't comment on how people spend their money.

Them vettes are sweet!!!! But me, I would rather have a 5k Honda and plenty of money for guns, travel, investments, emergencies, etc.

Good luck, enjoy the ride, and I hope everything in the budget works out.

I would no sooner go into debt for a vehicle than I would light my hair on fire.

I don't understand why people do the things that they do, but to each his own.

    Good luck, though.

Other than the travel (which I despise anyway), I'm already set in those other departments. Got a safe full of guns, investments ticking away from my employer, etc.

Thanks much. I'm fairly (ie, near 100%) certain it will. It definitely won't be done with an auto loan, that's for damn sure...

This is NOT my car, I want one badly, but I could not resist taking some shots of one I saw recently.

Cool! Nothing wrong with the finer things in life if you've got the coin and the other priorities are straightened out. If you can pay cash and afford the depreciation, have a little fun in life. We only get one shot at it (unless your Hindu :) )

Say what you will about GM, but I'd have a Corvette if I could afford one. I've wanted one ever since I was a kid. Sweet, sweet cars.

Besides, the delta between MSRP and invoice is what you gave GM in taxes anyway! Might as well capitalize on it...

That's almost precisely the one I ordered, save for the wheels. The wheels I ordered are gray in color as well. That car color is damn sharp in person.

I am with you on that but will take it one further. Since the health care deal bashed around last month were unions would be exempt. I will no longer buy anything produce buy unions. If you get special favors while I have to pay more for the same thing then you dont need my money. You have to much already!

I hope you have a lot of fun and many years of enjoyment from it. I can't relate because the Corvette has never appealed to me, not since the Stingray. I'd rather have a nice 4x4.

Some dealers in the Chicago area were advertising Z06's for nearly 20K off the MSRP. This has to be the best time to deal on cars that would normally cost over the sticker price, like the one you're getting. Congratulations!

Thanks for the congrats, everyone. You're exactly right, the iron's hot right now so I might as well strike. Winter time, hot sports car, and GM not moving cars as well as they should. This particular dealer is in Springfield, MO. That's going to be a very long drive home...

    J,

I'll drive it back for you. Trust me on this. I'll keep it between 90~110 all the way back so it's nicely broken in.

Also, much congrats on a really nice metallic beast. Did I miss your color of choice? Is is "metallic something"? ;)
