Whoo hoo. A new first. My first new car (well, okay it's used with a whopping 4200 miles on it). I picked it out, did the whole shebang and get the pleasure of those little bills that will soon be showing up. It's a 2005 Toyota Corolla XRS. It shares the same 2ZZGE powerplant and 6 speed manual tranny with the Celica GTS. It's a 1.8 liter 4 banger with all the electronic doo-dads (VVT-I and such) that makes it scream to 8200 rpms. It also comes with upgraded suspension incuding thicker swaybars and a strut tower bar. 16" wheels with Michelin Pilot tires and 4 wheel disc brakes with ABS (standard Corollas have rear drums). From what I read, I have nothing to fear from Civic Si's, Sentra SE-R's, or SVT Focus's. The best part is (the one reason why I picked it over anything else in it's class) that is a complete package. It's sporty, roomy (more on that later), comfortable, economical, and just a plain ole good value. I am 6'3" and 280 lbs. It's hard to find a compact car that fits me. I had an 86 300ZX, a 92 Ford Escort, and a 95 Mercury Cougar before this. All of them had to have the driver seats all the way back for me to fit and be comfortable. If it had a back seat, the one behind me was made useless. Not any more. I tested it out today. I left the driver seat in my driving position. I then got in the backseat behind it. I fit. Not just barely fit, but I actually had some room. Toyota must have figured out what the trick was to those Circus clown cars, becasue it's amazing that 2 6"3" people could sit in a row in such a small car. I have only had it for 2 days, but so far, I love it. It does everything I want it to do, except roast the BACK tires. But, hey it's a sacrifice I (and my checkbook) am willing to make. Best of all. It's a Toyota. ;f Now I have Pics. Please ignore the ugly house and VW GTI in the background. Both are under construction. Now I need a decent car stereo. Man this can get expensive.
