They did one of their firmware updates. TV off the last couple days. Turn it on to be greated to the notice of completed firmware update. No choice, no warning. Now Netflix service sux. Keeps buffering, stalling and flat out stops. Have had to turn the set off then on a dozen or more time the last couple hours. Never again, Vizio.

Love my Vizio! But it is not one of the 'smart' sets if that is what you have.

I got a Vizio & love it. Had that problem early on & reset it through the menu section. Works great since.

I'm thinking Vizio operating system is the Windows of the smart TV world.

I bought two Vizio 32" smart TVs for the spare bedrooms a few years ago. After a couple of days they started mysteriously turning themselves on....even though no one was using the room. Before I could solve the problem, we had an electrical storm; and they were both fried by a power surge. I replaced them with Samsung units.

I have an older Vizio 32" 720p, the audio just freaks out now and then not great. I just go for cheap now, Insignia band seem to be pretty good and one of the cheapest.

Speaking of unwanted updates, can skype run for longer than 3 days without updating?

I have never had any problem with mine. Maybe this just happens with newer set that have more features.

I noticed back light banding the first night with my Vizio 65" 4K HD so we traded it for another one at the same Walmart later that night. The replacement works great. I can't remember if it is on auto update, but if not, I check for and update regularly.

My father-in-law has a 60" Samsung, and I rave each time he watches NYPD Blue, which comes on after Sunday dinner. It shows its age on my Vizio, but it looks like a brand new show on his. I will probably purchase a Samsung next go around.

    Lessons the Windows team learned:

    1. If you give users a choice on whether/when to update, they'll never update.
    2. They'll ***** when the device is compromised because they never update and are eight security patches behind.
    3. Just force the update. Either way, they'll hate you.

If they stopped putting computers in monitors, we would have this problem. My Vizio isn't connected to the internet. I also don't know if my next TV would be a Vizio based upon their updates, potential spying, etc.

Vizio is pretty much a second tier brand.

Also, if you get one of the models that are a Black Friday special, from any manufacturer, that makes it even worse.

Vizio are good TV's and have many extras. but they are throw away TV's, every 5 years or so something really new comes out and at 5 years becomes reasonable to buy. My 40 inch HD Visio cost 340.00 at Costco. At 5 years it will be time to get a new one. Remember how much the old TV with Big TV tubes cost? 32 inch Sony cost 1,000.00. In 2002 the 40 inch Flat screen HD cost 2K.
A vizio is good if you like to keep up with the changes, or just double the price and get a SamSung.

    Here there is wisdom.

SheWhoMustBeObeyed refuses to update her Apple devices when she gets the notice. Then she wonders why they start acting strange a few months later.

In Vizio’s case, years ago they were pretty good. I’m sorry to hear they’ve gone south.

Are you implying manufacturers build an extra crappy version of their product just for black friday?

I've had vizios for about 8 years now and never a problem. They're half the cost of sony and do the same thing. Picture quality is better than my eyes can discern.
