    Radical Islamic Terrorism

"Police in the Netherlands have arrested seven men over an alleged plot to carry out what they describe as a major terrorist attack involving guns and explosives.

Police say the men were trying to source AK47s, hand grenades and bomb materials to carry out their attack.

The men, aged between 21 and 34, were arrested on Thursday.

Three had been arrested previously for trying to travel abroad to join foreign militants.

Prosecutors say the man at the centre of the group is a 34-year-old of Iraqi origin, who was convicted in 2017 for trying to travel to fight for the Islamic State group.

They say they were tipped off about the plot in April 2018 by intelligence services, who said the main suspect wanted to target "a large event in the Netherlands where there would be a lot of victims".

The seven men were arrested in the central city of Arnhem and southern municipality of Weert on Thursday afternoon by anti-terrorism teams from the country's Special Interventions Service (DSI).

Prosecutors believe the suspects wanted to carry out twin attacks involving a bomb and gun attack at an event and a car bomb detonated elsewhere.

"The suspects were in search of AK47s, hand guns, hand grenades, explosive vests and raw materials for several [car] bombs," prosecutors said in a statement.

Prosecutors say they were allegedly seeking firearms training and were arrested in possession of five small handguns.

The National Coordinator for Counterterrorism and Security (NCTV) told local media in a statement that the arrests reflect the "realistic" risk of attacks in the country.

The threat level in the Netherlands is currently set at four out of a maximum five."

There is no such thing as radical Islamic terrorism. There is just Islam. A basic tenet of Islam is to take over the world by any means possible. You have the active members who kill, the rest who approve of and support the active ones. Islam is a political action movement under the guise of a religion. Any Muslim can kill a non-muslim and, according to islam, be ok. That's why it's a scourge that needs to be eliminated - by any means necessary.

Glad the authorities got ahead of this.

My Dutch friends are growing increasingly intolerant of the threats on their peacefull society.

if it were up to me, there'd be NO way they'd ever be arrested again !

The Netherlands is one of those places that rehab killers with hug therapy, conjugal visits, and pizza/movie nights.

Now do remember that nobody was actually killed in this. So this is the worst they are looking at.
So at worst it could be a 10 year stretch "highly doubtful and highly doubtful they'd have to do 10 years even if found guilty". Simply put the Dutch just don't like locking people up in prisons. https://www.businessinsider.com/netherlands-turns-prisons-into-hotels-2017-6?IR=T

Heres another good one, "you really have to read this stuff to believe it". https://www.independent.co.uk/news/...ht-heerhugowaard-zaandam-arnhem-a7838586.html

So don't be doing cartwheels just yet. They may yet be fined and have enough left over on their credit cards to rent a Ryder and run over a Xmas crowd or two. Obviously their plan had to much drama and they need to re calibrate.

I say it's a good thing when they decide to use guns. Grenades are a different problem, but IMO guns are terrible general-purpose killing machines. They are highly effective execution machines, to be sure, but most people who get shot survive.

Take Las Vegas for instance- One way to look at it is that 58 people is far too many, but the other way to look at it is that 58 isn't very many considering that he probably anticipated several hundred.

Also consider the whole package- that guy in Vegas owned two airplanes. He could have just as easily loaded the backseat with cans of kerosene and wiped out that entire scene, and we would have read about several thousand dead, and several thousand more injured. I'm glad he went with guns instead of his airplanes.

Also IMO, anyone who truly understands the limits of firearms wouldn't choose a firearm as an instrument of mass murder.

Beyond that, the sound of gunfire is a universal signal to get the hell out of there- it is a pretty effective telegraph that actually helps save lives all things considered.
