Ok this is what just happened out in front of my house. I was putting my trash to the curb an I see someone in my neighbor's mailbox, it's about 150 yard's from mine I watch him an he starts walking down the road towards me, it's dark so I do what im supposed to an he walk's to my mailbox an opened it an put in his flyer then starts to tell me he wants to get this program going an see if the community will respond. Then he tells me not to approach him as he has 2 big dog's with him an that he worked for LEO in the next town for 11 years. He also goes on to tell me he has been walking around the neighborhood for the last couple of days straight because he stay's up for 36-48 hours at a time.

What now call the cops ?

P.S. he did leave his email :dunno:

Sounds like a freak...and it is against the law to put anything in a mailbox that did not go through the U.S. Postal Service. Was the flier for Neighborhood Watch? Definitely a worthwhile program. We have found that neighborhoods with an active watch programs have seen property crimes go down by 98%. We recommend them to every community. We are starting one here in my small town, too.

    Freaky people aside....good program.

Either way you cut it, bad news. Some of those neighborhood watch people (assuming that's what it really was) are bad news, and he sounds like one of the bad ones.

A place I am familliar with let one of the residents pretend she was the neighborhood watch chief for a little while. No harm right? Well before too long she made herself her own police style uniform, purchased a "K-9" and began issuing her own home made citations for various "violations" (trash out too early, toys left in driveway, etc.).

    Good luck.

A few years ago my granparents' neighborhood started a watch program. Everyone got a little metal sign to put in their yard. Some joker came through one night and stole all the signs. No one saw a thing.

Odd individual. Not sure I'd remain calm and non-confrontational under those circumstances...someone opening my mailbox and threatening me. Good job on keeping a cool head.

I would put a note on the mailbox that states "No unsolicited mail permitted". If he does it again, take his picture and call the police.

Kudos...I get irritated when my neighbor leaves their crap in my yard. I can't imagine how well I'd take it if they were going into my mailbox and threatening me with dogs.

Just call him up and tell him you've got the night watch. It'll be in good hands. Tomorrow you can show him your observation points and your established fall back positions. He'll sleep well.

Or call him and tell him that another neighbor asked you if your psycho pal was gay and that he couldn't stop from watching him every time he walks in front of your house.

If it's run correctly it's an excellent program...

Why don't you have a locking mailbox? That'd be my main concern...
