Does anyone know a website or service that will send current atmospheric data for your location in a text message to your cell phone? Specifically, I need temp, wind direction and speed, humidity and atmospheric pressure. I've tried Google's and weather.com's. Weather.com is the easiest to use but it doesn't give atmospheric pressure. I'm thinking NOAA will probably be the source but it doesn't look like it can send it via text message.

What kind of phone do you have? If you have a smart phone you may be able to find an app that will do what you need.

I don't have a smart phone, hence the need for text. I have a common verizon phone.

Did you try google text service? Google will send the basic weather with humidity for any zipcode. Text 46645 and the zipcode:

    46645 07731

For atmospheric pressure and detailed weather via text, I use the aviation forecasts. It seems like a long process, but once you learn the codes, the amount of info is impressive.

The TAF and METAR reports will list the information you seek. The reports are text based and produced in pilot ‘short hand’.

Here is a site that will send the reports from any airport.

    http://m.airwx.com/

They offer a TXT solution too. You just need to supply the code for the airport and which report.

I sent a text message to 41411 and put this as the message: METAR EWR

This requested the local forecast for Newark Airport in NJ, and produced the following report on my phone:

    41411: KEWR 261351Z 24014KT 10SM FEW040 SCT 0850 04/M02 A2963

My decode is: date time Jan 26th at 13:51 zulu time. The wind is from 240 degrees at 14 knots, visibility is 10 statute miles, few clouds at 4,000 feet, scattered clouds at 8500 feet, temp 4 degrees C, dewpoint -2 degrees C, barometer 29.63 inches (this is pressure).

If I wanted the TAF (terminal area forecast), then send TAF EWR to 41411.

You can find the METAR cheatsheet here:

I knew about Google but I need atmospheric pressure too and its not provided.

I could probably derive it from dewpoint... I would rather search by zip code but my guess is they use the data from the closest airport anyway.

Thanks for the great info! I'll give it a try.
