I've had a great friend at work for 22 years now, the last 2 years he has also been my boss. Coming up is his 50th birthday and I am putting some thought into this. To cover all the bases I am asking for some suggestions from the GT brain trust. I am earmarking about $150 for the gift.

He's not into shooting sports (not yet - still working on it) so any suggestions along those lines are out, he's a big computer gamer, tinkers with computers, he's into movies big time, beer snob (not that there is anything wrong with that), likes art, and he's into working out. He and his wife are not p/c at all so even an outrageous gift that he would actually use would be appreciated.

I may also get a couple of smaller gag gifts so suggestions for those are ok as well.

Get a couple of other co-workers to throw some $$ in and buy him a 50th Anniversary Ruger Black Hawk in .357 magnum. You can find one new for around $450.00.

It would be a great way to get him into shooting.

I like the idea - but unfortunately any firearms would have to have my buddy apply for a permit, etc. probably would take six month's before he would actually get to use it.

No, actually it was really kind of flattering. It took them most of Sunday to stage and set up and it took me most of Monday before I got to my desk. You see, each of the 396 balloons had glitter and the number 50 in them. Pop one and the glitter and numbers would go everwhere.

My late wife had told them when I was going to be 50. She missed it because she had passed away just 3 months earlier. So it was like a gift from her and my fellow co-workers.

If he has a family $150 in Outback gift cards would be good.

That was a nice gesture from your co-workers. It must have taken you all day to remove the baloons then.
