    Hello everyone,

I bought my Kimber Classic Custom 1911 from a fellow GlockTalker a few years ago. It is my first and only 1911. I absolutely love my Kimber, it shoots great. I believe it was built around 1997-98.

My only issues are the grips and the sights. The sights are original to the gun and the grips are made by RAASCO and I believe they are smooth linen phenolic. They are very nice grips, I just don't like them because of how smooth they are. I did add some grip tape to the front strap which really helped my control. I like the feel of the wraparound finger groove grips but they don't allow me to get a good high grip that I like. I also want grips that fit the S&A magwell like these RAASCO grips do. What grips do you all like?

As far as the sights, they work great for accuracy, but I have a hard time finding the front sight when shooting faster.
I hate to remove the sights completely being that it is an older gun. I thought about a little sight paint on the front sight but I don't know??

The shooting I do mostly is informal with friends, mostly plates, targets, dueling tree, etc. I can't shoot really fast but I could be quicker if I could pick up. The front sight quicker.

    I need ideas.

    Thanks

For the money it's tough to beat duragrips (I like the honeycomb and the defense models).

What about ditching the rear sight altogether and install one of those mini-red dots like the Docter Optik or Trijicon RMR?

I'll be the odd man out here. I love fully checkered aggressive wood grips. As for sights, Novak's plain black rear sight and tritium front sight.

IMO, the sight you have are very good sights, maybe have the front thinned or replaced with a .115" and the rear notch opened up to .140-.150"

    I love black serrated sights.

Grip panels on a 1911 really don't do much if you use a proper grip. I like a checkered MSH and Pachmayrs with plain black sights.
